Leasing: the trap nobody talks about.

If you are asking "vaut mieux acheter ou louer une voiture?", start with the three-year math. Lower monthly payments look clean. The total almost never does.

Leasing voiture avantages inconvénients

The honest version.

Leasing is not always stupid. It is usually expensive. If you want convenience, a new car, and a fixed exit date, say that. Just do not confuse it with value.

Advantages

  • Lower cash hit each month.
  • Easy entry into a new car with warranty cover.
  • Predictable contract length if you know you want out in 24 to 36 months.

Inconvénients

  • You fund depreciation without building any asset.
  • Mileage caps and return-condition fees can wreck the headline price.
  • The true cost of car leasing is usually much higher than the ad suggests.

Leasing vs buying a car

A realistic 36-month comparison table.

Example: a compact hatchback. Lease a new one, or buy a solid used one for €15,500 and resell it after three years. Same usage. Same driver. Very different outcome.

Is car leasing worth it?

Four myths that keep bad lease deals alive.

This is where most lease pages go soft. We won't.

Myth 01

Lower monthly means cheaper.

It means lower monthly. That is not the same thing. Lease ads hide the deposit, the fees, and the fact that your last payment buys you nothing. The car leaves. The money stays gone.

Myth 02

You always drive a better car.

You drive a newer car. Different thing. The question is whether the upgrade is worth a four-figure premium over a clean used car that still does the job.

Myth 03

No repair hassle makes it a smart deal.

Warranty cover is real. So are return-condition fights, tyre rules, excess-km bills, and the pressure to keep the car spotless because it is never really yours.

Myth 04

Buying is dead money.

Buying a car means depreciation. Leasing a car means paying for that same depreciation plus the finance margin and handing the asset back. Dead money is paying and owning nothing.
